Sheffield Chamber Players perform and discuss String Quartet No.4 by the preeminent Ukrainian composer Borys Lyatoshynsky. The discussion will explore the musical and historical context of this rarely heard masterpiece. Saturated with Ukrainian folk melodies, this quartet was written during some of the darkest days of World War II. All five movements of the quartet are permeated with a sense of longing, which Lyatoshynsky must have felt often, being so far from his homeland while it was being ravaged by the Nazi occupation.
Admission is free.
Performance in Pendleton West Music Salon, first floor, Room PNW 101.
