Vira Slywotzky, an amazing Ukrainian American contralto, returns to the Boston area with an exicting new concert cabaret. The program raises awareness of the roles of women in the fight for freedom, in the US and abroad, past and present through a musical program performed by Vira and pianist David Sytkowski. The “Freedom” that will be sung about and explored through spoken word between songs, cabaret style, will encompass a broad definition of freedom. Freedom of expression, democratic choice, religion, and lifestyle, and against complacency. These women’s voices from around the world are those who have challenged norms. With one notable exception, “This House” by Leonard Bernstein, all of the songs performed will feature words and music written and composed by women, respectively. The program will feature American, Chinese, French, Persian, and Ukrainian music.
